THE 22ND ANNIVERSARY MOTOR SHOW IS HELD IN SAINT PETERSBURG SPORT COMPLEX ON 03-07 APRILE, THE SHOW IS DEVOTED TO 100 YEAR SINCE THE GREATEST INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW OF IMPERIAL RUSSIA HELD UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF NIKOLAS II.

Historic reference

1913 motor show was really an international event. Three days before its opening, May 2, 1913, newspaper Peterbursky Listok had written “In a few days the International Motor Show would be opened, it’s size exceeded all our expectations”.

Having visited the motor show the journalist couldn’t help wondering: «Several hundred automobiles, one better than the other were shining of its novelty! Conversations in all European languages were heard!

The motor show occupied 15 000 sq. m. in Michilovsky and Kazachy manages and between them. Over 150 companies from all around the world displayed their products. 386 automobiles were shown.

All international leaders of that period were among exhibitors, and many of them still maintain their leadership – Mercedes, Audi, Peugeot, Renault, Fiat, Rolls-Royce and Opel.
Besides, of course, there were brands forgotten nowadays – Horch, Adler, Delahaye, Commer, Soarer. «In the first place was Germany, in the second – France and Russia was behind, as it had only two automobile manufactures”, - stated Peterburgsky Listok.

Motor shows of the beginning of the 20th century played a great part in Russia’s economy, contributed to technological development and modernization of native industry. Public interest towards automobiles was extremely high. It was considered as a wonder of technology, luxury, a symbol of prosperity. The exhibitions allowed public to see that miracle, learn about its technical arrangement, to estimate practical value of a novelty.

At the same time for the salesmen it was a unique chance to seduce a visitor into buying a car, to convince those who have doubts or reservations and make them think that automobile was a serious thing and for the long haul.
