The 37th International Fashion Trade Fair
FASHION INDUSTRY. Spring 2011

The 37th International Fashion trade fair FASHION INDUSTRY was held in St Petersburg on 16 - 19 March 2011. The organizers of the event are FarExpo exhibition group, Rostextil concern and Textilexpo close corporation.

“Fashion Industry” is the biggest international fashion trade fair in St Petersburg and St Petersburg area. It welcomes over 300 leading fashion companies from Russia, CIS countries and Europe (including national expositions from Italy, Bulgaria, Finland and Scandinavian countries). Thematic sectors of the trade fair are ladies’ and men’s clothes, textile, lingerie salon, fur and leather garments, shoes, fittings. Dynamical and various programme made the trade fair an optimal business platform for demonstration of fashion garments, establishment of new business contacts between participants, analysis of the market and effective interchange of professional experience in the sphere of fashion technologies.

The honourable guest of the trade fair was a famous Russian designer Vyachaslav Zaytsev who presented a new linen clothes collection Ekzersis.

Traditionally the main event of the trade fair’s business programme was XIII Economic Forum of the Fashion Industry. Over 400 specialists from Russia, Italy, Estonia and Byelorussia took part in the Forum. They were chief managers of manufacturing companies and store chains, designers and technologists, representatives of high educational schools and mass media. Among the most popular subjects of the forum were up-to-date fashion trade, fashion trends, ways of sales increase and new standards in management and motivation of the fashion store personnel. The Forum’s programme includes the following events:

  • Seminar Fashion Trends (Luba Popova, professor of Milan New Academy of Fine Arts (NABA, Italy))
  • Training Profit Markup Of A Fashion Company. The second breath (Olga Kuznetsova, owner and Director of Rikki-Tikki store chain (Moscow))
  • Master-class Equipment And Programmes For Embroidering (Transmetall company (Ivanovo))
  • Interactive training Management And Assortment Planning In The Shop Of Fashion Garments. Mathematics Of Buying Speaker (Andrey Burmatikov, director of the consulting department Fashion Consulting Group (Moscow))
  • Training Choice And Effective Use Of Communicational Channels For Promotion Of A Fashion Company (Andrey Magarik, editor-in-chief of RusTM.ru (Saint Petersburg))

In the frames of the spring trade fair the project Fashion Exclusive was held. The project started in last autumn and in spring for the second time presented exclusive Italian brands to Russian buyers of high and up-middle segments. On 17th March in the Corinthia Nevskij Palace hotel Italian companies DPM Furs, Confezione Pozzi, Carlo Actis, Vema, Apex, Franco Giazzi и Sea Star presented elegant models of men’s and ladies’ clothes of A/W 2011-12 collections.

During the trade fair the project Special Buyer Programme was realized. The main goal of the Programme was to increase of effectiveness of buyers’ work at the trade fair. 60 exhibitors took advantage of the programme and 78% of them were satisfied with the results and concluded treaties for garments delivery at the trade fair.

During the ceremony of the grand opening of the trade fair a winner of the traditional contest for the most active buyer of the previous autumn Fashion Industry was named. The winner become Valentina Amanova, purchasing manager of the internet store Pyshnaya Krasavitsa (Moscow). She was awarded with a special prize – the Economic Forum of the Fashion Industry VIP card for all events free-of-charge visiting.

The event that attracted the fashion specialists attention was the St Petersburg fashion buyers completion Fashion Buyer Awards. Participants of the competition were St Petersburg department stores and their work was evaluated by experts and specialists by means of the open vote on the Internet portal Rustm.net(Russian Trade Marks). The competition winners become the Moskovskiy department store (nominations “Traditions” and “Assortment”), the Kupchinskiy department store (nomination “Personnel”) and the Kirovskiy department store (nomination “Image”).

Particular attention during the trade fair were given to GENERATION NEXT - the creative projects of young fashion specialists contest. It was participated by over 50 young specialists – students and graduating students of specialized high educational schools: the St.-Petersburg State Art-Industrial Academy of A.L.Shtiglitsa, the St.-Petersburg State University of Service and Economy, the St.-Petersburg State University of Technology and Design, the Leningrad State University of A.S.Pushkin, the Ivanovo State Textile Academy, Petrozavodsk KGPU. Each visitor of the trade fair could become a member of a public jury and give his vote to some participants. During the trade fair the previous competition in autumn 2010 winner was awarded. The winner become a student of the St.-Petersburg State University of Technology and Design - Kristina Vasilevskaya with her collection of TRAUM-A.

Daily during the trade fair presentations and fashion shows of new collections of Russian and foreign manufactures were organized.

On the 16th March for Russian buyers and the press the presentation of Danish and Finnish trademarks was organized. And on 17th March the presentation of Bulgarian group of companies was arranged.

According to statistic data, for 4 days the 37th international trade fair Fashion Industry was visited by 12479 people. Over 6 240 people (50% visitors) were specialists of the industry of fashion.
